Description:
Paku atai merah (Angiopteris ferox Copel) is a fern plant native from Kalimantan. The Dayak tribe
uses the tuber as a mixture of traditional medicines and has the potential to be an antioxidant. The
tuber of paku atai merah contains secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids,
tannins, and saponins. The study aimed to formulate an ethanol extract of the tuber of paku atai merah
in capsule dosage form and evaluate the physical characteristics. Granules were prepared by varying
the aerosol concentration, namely 5% (F1), 7% (F2), and 9% (F3). Granules were made using the wet
granulation method, then the physical characteristics of the granules were evaluated. Granules that
meet the requirements are then put into the capsule shell, followed by capsule evaluation. The results
showed that all granule formulas met the physical characterization of granules such as organoleptic,
moisture content, loss on drying, flow rate, angle of repose, true Bj, real Bj, compressed Bj, and
porosity. However, in the capsule evaluation, only capsules containing granules of F2 and F3 met the
physical characteristics of the capsule, such as weight uniformity, disintegration time, and hygroscopic
tests
