Description:
Banana peel (Musa paradisiaca var. Sapientum) contains flavonoid, phenolic, and tannin compounds
as a high source of antioxidants. Antioxidants have been shown to hydrate, soften and reduce skin
dryness, and have the potential to be lip balm formulations. This study aims to evaluate the stability
of lip balm formulations containing methanol extract from banana peels. This study used a laboratory
experimental method with concentrations 5%, 7.5%, and 10% with the DPPH method. The result is a
kepok banana peel methanol extract lip balm in a homogeneous with the appropriate pH (5-6), does
not cause irritation, is stable at room temperature (25?C), and the hedonic test results show that the
concentration is 7.5% and 10% preferred. The antioxidant activity showed an inhibitory concentration
of 50% (IC50). Banana peel methanol extracts lip balm with concentrations of 5%, 7.5%, and 10% had
antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 44.910 ppm, 10.887 ppm, and 61.930 ppm respectively. Lip
balm antioxidant activity with a concentration of 5% and 7.5% is included as a very strong antioxidant.
all lip balm formulations were stable. The conclusion is that lip balm containing methanol extract from
banana peel has good antioxidant properties as a natural cosmetic formulation, formula II is the best
