Description:
Dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) is a waste that is rarely used and often thrown away even
though dragon fruit peel contains many secondary metabolites, one of which is flavonoids which
function as moisturizing agents in lip balm preparations. The purpose of this research is to study the
development of nanoparticle formulations from dragon fruit peel extract as lip moisturizing agents in
lip balm preparations. Preparations in the form of nanoparticles have a more effective surface area so
that the transportation of materials becomes more efficient. The type of research is experimental by
carrying out PSA test, organoleptic test, pH test, homogeneity test, melting point test, irritation test,
and moisture test with various formulas. Data was processed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the
study namely in the PSA test, the size of dragon fruit peel extract nanoparticles was 30–98 nm. Tests
on the homogeneity showed homogeneous results, pH 5, melting point 51°C, irritation test showed
no irritation, and moisture test showed 32.73% water content and oil content 27.63% at F0; 43.96%
water content and 26.1% oil content in F1; 13.9% water content and 20.8% oil content in F2. It can be
concluded that dragon fruit peel extract nanoparticles have the potential as a moisturizing agent in the
manufacture of lip balm preparations.
